French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses
French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and French as a Second Language (FLS) courses are available each semester, mainly for international students enrolled at the Gustave Eiffel University.
Within the framework of choosing optional UE’s and subject to the agreement of the course director, the FLE/FLS courses may lead to the validation of ECTS credits.
University staff can follow online FLE courses reserved for staff, or FLE courses on campus, open to both students and staff.
Registering for FLE classes
A 3-step process:
1. For semester 1, fill in the online form (from 12/06/2023 to 15/09/2023) by clicking here.
For semester 2, fill in the online form (from 20/11/2023 to 12/01/2024) by clicking here.
Online registration is compulsory for each participant.
2. Take the compulsory assessment test after receiving an email with a link.
3. You will receive an email indicating which group you have been assigned to based on your language level and including a timetable of the classes.
IMPORTANT
A minimum of 12 participants per group is required in order to hold the class. Admission to classes is subject to availability. Participants will be informed if the group for their level is full or cannot be held. In the case of high demand, priority will be given to Université Gustave Eiffel students.
Students and staff are reminded that classes are compulsory.
Cost
- For Université Gustave Eiffel undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students: classes are free
- For Université Gustave Eiffel staff / PhD students from outside Université Gustave Eiffel: €315 per semester
FLE classes are not open to people outside Université Gustave Eiffel.
Course Modalities:
Semester courses in FLE and FLS are held once a week, usually in the late afternoon, and are spread over a period of twelve weeks.
Starting 2022-2023, FLE courses are taught in hybrid mode (2 hours per week in class + 1 hour per week online, in asynchronous mode, on the Moodle platform), with the exception of the FLE course for staff (1 hour per week, online course on Zoom) and the FLS course (1.5 hours per week, on the Marne-la-Vallée campus).
A syllabus, distributed at the beginning of the semester, presents the prerequisites, the objectives, the evaluation methods and the content of the sessions of the course followed.
Presentation of the groups
The FLE classes are structured around an educational framework based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). They are divided into different levels ranging from A1 to C1.

Certifications
A TCF DAP exam dedicated to all foreigners wishing to enter a Licence 1 or a school of architecture at the Université Gustave Eiffel is organised each year by our university.
For interested students, it is possible to take the official DELF-DALF certification in an approved centre. The Gustave Eiffel University is not an approved centre. We encourage you to consult all the information about these certifications on the France Education international website.
